Sports and Mental Health

Sports and Mental Health go hand in hand, everyone has anxiety about current situations in a game or thinking what golf club I should hit. Kevin Love opened up about his mental health in The Players’ Tribune. Throughout the article he kept his struggle with mental illness to himself not telling anyone about it until it all blew up in a matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. This article is very eye-opening in that everyone needs to speak out about there battle with mental illness and that there is someone there for everyone in the world today.

Learning a lesson through the power of sports

My most important lesson that I have learned through the power of sports has to be patience. As a proud Chicago fan White Sox’s not Cubs for baseball, I have learned it takes a while for teams to have success when the Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup for the first time in 35 years and then winning 2 more a couple of years later. To the Bulls rise to fame with Derrick Rose then the freefall that happened afterward. To the White Sox’s making the playoffs for the first time in over 11 years this past season after painful rebuild after rebuild. Now to the holy grail of them all my beloved Chicago Bears who haven’t won the super bowl since 1985 one of the best NFL teams ever by record, hopefully my Bears can climb the ranks soon back to glory.

Worst Sports Moment

My worst moment ever when playing sports was when I was a kid. I played basketball and I was picked as the player to set up the play and reposition down near the basket for rebounds. It was late in the game tied with a couple of seconds left. I got the rebound put it back up and got fouled so I went to the line to shoot two free throws. Well the first one rattled in an out of the basket, and the second was the most embarrassing, I totally air balled the free throw easily the most embarrassing/worst sports moment for me. Luckily the game went to overtime and my team won, but if took me a couple of days to shake off the bad free throw.

Greatest Athletic Achievement

My greatest athletic achievement has to be in high school when I was on the golf team. I was having a great season averaging a 68 playing eighteen holes, and making the cut line for every tournament it resulted in the end of the year me being called into my coach’s office to tell me I was selected to all conference team. That was easily the best day of my life because it showed how far I worked from only starting to play golf four years prior beginning my freshman year.

Hot Take Wednesday

This week on my blog I’m doing a hot take that will happen this season in my mind. This is that Zach Lavine star forward for the Chicago Bulls will walk away with the NBA scoring title this year leading all players in points. In the 14 games the Bulls have played they have a 6-8 record but most of the losses this year have been close due to Lavine averaging 27.4 points a game per ESPN, and it is more then possible this year with Lavine also averaging 35.6 minutes per contest against other teams the Bulls have faced.

Show and tell

For show and tell I brought something that is really important to me and has been a passion throughout my life, and that is hockey. Today I brought my hockey gloves to show and tell. My gloves are important to me because it shows the love I have for the sport, and it has grown since I joined the hockey club at SUU, and learned how to play hockey after years of watching the Chicago Blackhawks kick butt winning three Stanley Cups in six years. Now with a professional hockey team in my hometown of Las Vegas the passion is higher then ever with everyone enjoying the game and tradition of hockey.
